SOFIA is built jointly by NASA and the German Aerospace Center (DLR), with a telescope designed by German companies and engineers tasked by the DLR took its first observation flight. The observatory rides on board a converted Boeing 747SP to look out into space from an altitude of 12 kilometers with almost no interference from the Earth’s atmosphere. One of SOFIA’s major components is the 4.6 x 4.3 meters door in the aircraft’s hull, which has the job of opening and closing the telescope cavity at flying speeds of approx. 800 km/h. The control algorithms for the door opening mechanism

Sun had been lightening our lives ever since we evolved on this planet and even before that. I never thought it can cause darkness too. Be prepared to face the dark side of sun. It had happened before (in 1989)?and it will happen again (predicted to be in 2010-2012). If it does happen then smart power grids, GPS navigation, air travel, financial services and emergency radio communications… can all be knocked out by one wave of intense solar activity. “The sun is waking up from a deep slumber, and in the next few years we expect to see much higher levels of solar activity,” said Richard Fisher, head of NASA’s Heliophysics Division. A major solar storm could cause twenty times more economic damage than Hurricane Katrina.

Nasa Warns Of Super Solar Storm 2012
NASA and NOAA work together to manage a fleet of satellites that monitor the sun and help to predict its changes. A pair of spacecraft called STEREO (Solar Terrestrial Relations Observatory) is stationed on opposite sides of the sun, offering a combined view of 90 percent of the solar surface. In addition, SDO (the Solar Dynamics Observatory), which just launched in February 2010, is able to photograph solar active regions with unprecedented spectral, temporal and spatial resolution. Also, an old satellite called the Advanced Composition Explorer (ACE), which launched in 1997, is still chugging along monitoring winds coming off the sun. And there are dozens more dedicated to solar science. Putting satellites in ‘safe mode’ and disconnecting transformers can protect electronics from damaging electrical surges.

“On March 13, 1989 the entire province of Quebec, Canada suffered an electrical power blackout. Hundreds of blackouts occur in some part of North America every year. The Quebec Blackout was different, because this one was caused by a solar storm.”
Solar storms occur when sunspots on our star erupt and spew out flumes of charged particles that can damage power systems. The sun’s activity typically follows an 11-year cycle, and it looks to be coming out of a slump and gearing up for an active period. Solar flares and coronal mass ejections (CMEs), associated giant clouds of plasma in space, are the largest explosions in the solar system. They are caused by the buildup and sudden release of magnetic stress in the solar atmosphere above the giant magnetic poles we see as sunspots. CMEs can cause magnetic storms affecting communication systems, power grids and astronauts in space.
In 1989 astronomers witnessed a powerful explosion on the sun. Within minutes, Read More
Here comes one more interesting application on Android platform. Even more weird ones might show up in coming times as many brilliant, naughty and evil minds are working out there. "Isshoni Training" app is a result of one of those, This app encourages you to do push-ups by having you literally kiss your phone. A cute little (and of-course sexy) animated character is displayed on screen to give you some incentive to kiss her and make that one extra push-up.
Apple has invested more than $100 million in? building its advanced antenna design and test lab. Here is a chance to peek inside this $100 million Apple iPhone Design and Test Labs and have a look at all the high tech gadgetry and wierd devices they use to test phones. This is what helps them to maintain strict quality control and top performance of Apple products.
It's time to say bye bye to 3D galsses. Sony recently has demonstrated future of digital displays, a prototype for interesting new Autostereoscopic 360 degree display technology. For those who do not know, "Autostereoscopy" is any method of displaying stereoscopic images without the use of special headgear or glasses. Sony last october had unveiled some information about this display. Sony then said that the display will allow 360 degree viewing of the 3D image inside without the need for glasses. This must be what they were talking about then. This autostereoscopic display is capable of projecting 360 individual slices of an

By the way, if you haven’t guessed, the picture above is Steering Wheel of a F1 car. After watching the video you might think for a second before grabbing F1 steering wheel, if you ever get a chance to do so ![]()
Formula One drivers can’t afford to look for small, hidden gauges and controls. So, most of the crucial controls and instrumentation for modern Formula One cars have almost entirely migrated to the steering wheel. The critical interface between the driver and the car.
Early Formula One cars used steering wheels similar to our cars. Initial wheels were of large diameter, to reduce the effort needed to turn. As time passed cockpits became smaller and steering wheels became even smaller, so as to fit into the more compact space available.
Introduction of semi-automatic gearchanges marked the beginning of the move to concentrate controls as close to the driver’s fingers as possible. The first buttons which popped out of steering wheel were the ‘neutral’ button (vital for taking the car out of gear in the event of a spin), and the on-board radio system’s push-to-talk button. Now except the throttle and brake pedals everything else is on steering wheel. Only a few Formula One cars have any controls other than those on the face of the wheel. The steering wheels are not designed to make more than three quarters of a turn of lock in total, so there is no need for a continuous rim, instead there are just two ‘cut outs’ for the driver’s hands.

We shall discuss the mysteries linked with "Anti Gravity" in 3 parts in ascending order of their appearance on face of earth. This first part is about The Great Pyramid of Giza, which is the oldest and largest of the three pyramids in the Giza Necropolis bordering what is now Cairo, Egypt. It is believed the pyramid was constructed over a 20 year period concluding around 2560 BC. The Great Pyramid was the tallest man-made structure in the world for over 3,800 years. These are the questions that first come to ones mind... Where did these stones come here from? (They are
